Replatforming to Shopify Plus
Shopify Plus migration services
OUXP moves stores to Shopify Plus from Magento, Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, BigCommerce and WooCommerce, with products, customers, order history and SEO carried across. We map every product, URL and integration before anything moves, rehearse the switch end to end and watch orders and rankings after launch. Most migrations cost $25,000–$250,000+, with the price fixed in writing before work starts.
Migration paths
Which platform are you moving from?
Pick your current platform for its timeline, typical cost and what makes it hard to leave. OUXP has engineered commerce since 2011, Magento included, so we know where each platform keeps its business logic before we quote.
-
Magento to Shopify Plus migration
Option matrices, custom attributes and modules restructured for Shopify’s product model. Magento 1 stores, unsupported since June 30, 2020, move straight across – no Magento 2 upgrade first.
- Timeline
- 8–24+ weeks
- Typical range
- $50,000–$180,000
-
Adobe Commerce to Shopify Plus migration
Everything a Magento move involves, plus B2B features and enterprise integrations. Start 6–9 months before your license renewal so you don’t pay for both platforms.
- Timeline
- 10–24+ weeks
- Typical range
- $60,000–$200,000
-
Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify Plus migration
Heavy custom business logic, multi-site setups and customizations built by a systems integrator – usually our longest engagements.
- Timeline
- 10–24+ weeks
- Typical range
- $80,000–$250,000+
-
BigCommerce to Shopify Plus migration
SaaS to SaaS, so there are no servers to unpick. The work is in product options, app replacements and URL redirects.
- Timeline
- 4–12 weeks
- Typical range
- $30,000–$70,000
-
WooCommerce to Shopify Plus migration
Data exports cleanly, so most of the work is replacing WordPress plugins with apps and carrying content and SEO across.
- Timeline
- 3–10 weeks
- Typical range
- $25,000–$60,000

What moves the cost of a migrationWhy move to Shopify Plus – and when not to
Most moves start with one of these four problems. Some stores are better off staying put – the “Think twice” list below says when.
-
01
A license renewal or rising platform fees
Adobe Commerce licenses typically run $22,000–$125,000+ a year, and Salesforce Commerce Cloud fees are usually a share of sales, typically 1–3% of GMV (both industry estimates). As of October 2026, Shopify Plus starts at $2,300/month on a three-year term or $2,500/month on a one-year term – roughly $27,600–$30,000 a year, hosting included. Very high-volume stores move to a revenue-based fee; the pricing guide explains when.

02
End of life, patches and upgrade projects
Magento 1 lost support on June 30, 2020, and Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce need regular security patches and version upgrades. On Shopify, hosting, security patches, a PCI-compliant checkout and core updates are Shopify’s job.
-
03
A team busy keeping the platform alive
Extension conflicts, server issues and regression testing after every patch eat the engineering budget. On Shopify Plus, that time goes back into the store: features, speed and conversion work.
-
04
New markets, B2B buyers or traffic peaks
Shopify runs the servers through traffic peaks, and Shopify Markets handles countries, currencies and languages from one store. Core B2B has worked on every paid Shopify plan since April 2, 2026; Plus adds more than 3 catalogs and catalogs assigned to specific companies, deposits, expansion stores and customization of the information, shipping and payment steps of checkout.
Shopify Plus is likely the right move if…
- Platform fees, hosting and upgrades cost more each year than the improvements you ship
- You would rather customize checkout with supported extensions than maintain your own checkout code
- You sell in several markets, or your B2B buyers need company-specific catalogs, more than 3 catalogs or deposits on large orders
- You want your engineers working on the store, not on servers and patches
Think twice if…
- Your business depends on deep back-end customization, and an in-house team already maintains it well
- You need full control of the checkout code, the servers or the database
- Your products rely on option matrices that can’t be restructured into Shopify’s 3 options per product
- Your store is small and simple – standard Shopify may do the job without the Plus subscription
The free assessment says so when staying where you are, or moving to standard Shopify, is the better call.

- Michelle Farmer
- NEODERMA / The White City
Michelle Farmer moved from QuickBooks POS to Shopify, across multiple stores, and NEODERMA / The White City was a brand migration. Leaving Magento or Adobe Commerce? The process is published step by step: each step ends in an output you check before the next one starts, from the approved 301 map to the reconciliation report and the signed-off launch rehearsal.
How a migration runs
Seven steps on every platform, each with an output you can check before the next one starts, and an optional eighth once the store is live. Your current store keeps selling throughout, and nothing reaches your domain until the cutover has been rehearsed end to end.
- 1
Discover and audit
List the data, content, apps, integrations, URLs and behaviors the business relies on, and read the code that holds custom logic.
- 2
Map and plan
Decide where each item goes in Shopify and how it changes on the way: product model, field map, app and integration map, 301 map, cutoff plan.
- 3
Design and build
Theme, apps, Shopify Functions, checkout extensions and integrations, built in a separate development store.
- 4
Pilot and reconcile
Import a representative sample, compare counts, totals, keys and links with the source, fix and repeat – then run the full import.
- 5
Test and rehearse
Test every journey – checkout, payments, integrations, redirects, page speed – then run the cutover steps end to end.
- 6
Launch
Freeze changes, import the final delta of orders and customers, switch the domain and verify checkout.
- 7
Monitor and hand over
Watch orders, errors, page speed, search visibility and support requests for the monitoring period in your quote, fix what surfaces, then hand the store over to your team.
- 8
Optimize and grow
Speed, conversion and new features once the store is live – with your own team, a retainer and maintenance plan or a dedicated engineer.
What happens to your data and URLs?
Products, customers, order history, content and URLs all move, and every order stays linked to its customer and products.
| On your current platform | On Shopify Plus |
|---|---|
| Products, variants and options | Products with up to 3 options and 2,048 variants each. Larger option matrices are split into separate products, or choices that are really filters move to metafields – you approve the approach before anything is built. |
| Custom attributes and spec data | Metafields for descriptive attributes; metaobjects for structured data such as spec sheets, fitment tables or ingredient panels. |
| Categories and navigation | Manual or rule-based collections, plus menus and storefront filters. |
| Customers and addresses | Customer records with addresses, tags and marketing consent. Passwords are stored as hashes Shopify can’t import, so customers sign in with a one-time email code through Shopify’s customer accounts. |
| Order history | Historical orders, each linked to its customer and products. Legacy order numbers stay on record for support and finance. |
| URLs, metadata and structured data | A per-pattern 301 map to Shopify’s /products/, /collections/, /pages/ and /blogs/ paths, with titles, meta descriptions, canonicals and structured data carried over. |
| CMS pages and blog posts | Shopify pages and blog articles, with images moved and internal links updated. |
| Extensions, plugins and cartridges | Replaced, not copied: a Shopify app, Shopify Functions or a custom app for each one, itemized in discovery. |
| Promotions, cart and checkout rules | Rebuilt with Shopify Functions and Checkout UI extensions – a scoped rebuild, not a port. |
| B2B accounts and price lists | Shopify B2B companies, catalogs, volume pricing and payment terms. More than 3 catalogs, or catalogs assigned to specific companies, need Shopify Plus. |
| Subscriptions, stored cards and app data | Investigated, never assumed: active subscriptions and stored payment details move only if your payment provider supports a transfer; reviews, loyalty points and wishlists move when the replacement app can import them. |
Old order numbers and IDs your team relies on are kept for reference. Applies to all five platforms; each platform page covers what is specific to it. Shopify limits as of October 2026.
Two things can’t simply be copied
- Customer passwords. Shopify can’t import them, so customers sign in with a one-time email code instead.
- Stored cards and active subscriptions. They move only if your payment provider supports a transfer.
What every migration includes
Four things are never optional extras, whatever the platform or price band – they are what separates a migration from a re-import.
-
SEO preservation
Your full URL set exported, a per-pattern 301 map live at launch, metadata and structured data carried over, the new XML sitemap submitted to Google Search Console and rankings monitored through cutover.
-
Data parity
Product, customer and order counts, totals and links checked against your old store after the pilot import and again after the full one. You see the reconciliation report, and any difference is fixed before launch.
-
A rehearsed launch
Launch day run end to end in advance – final orders and customers, domain switch, redirects, payments and order flow – with an agreed cutoff time, backups and a rollback plan.
-
Monitoring after launch
Orders, checkout errors, 404s, page speed, search visibility and support requests watched for a monitoring period set out in your quote, with fixes made by the engineers who built the store.
Also in every migration quote
- Data migration of products, customers, orders and content
- Theme build or design parity
- App mapping and configuration
- QA across checkout, payments and key journeys on desktop and mobile
Quoted separately, if you need it
- A full redesign
- New custom features the current store doesn’t have
- ERP middleware development
- Paid app subscriptions
- Photography and content
- An ongoing retainer after the monitoring period
Comparing quotes?
Ask every agency which of these two lists each item falls into. Quotes far below the typical bands usually leave out data migration or SEO work, and it comes back mid-project as a change request.
The free assessment gives your store’s cost band and the risks that would move it.
Get a free migration assessmentWill our integrations keep working?
Every connected system – ERP, CRM, PIM, 3PL, email, reviews – gets one of three routes, decided in discovery and tested against the new store before cutover.
-
Reconnect
A maintained connector exists
Klaviyo, Yotpo or ShipStation, for example, have native Shopify connectors. We install, configure and map them, then check that the data arrives where it should.
-
Repoint
Middleware already moves the data
If Celigo, Boomi or similar middleware connects your ERP today, we point its flows at Shopify’s APIs and retest every one.
-
Rebuild
Nothing off the shelf fits
We build the integration on Shopify’s Admin API and webhooks. A failed sync retries itself and alerts someone, so orders don’t silently stop reaching your ERP or warehouse, and your team gets documentation for it.

Every platform you might be leaving
We’ve built on Magento, Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, BigCommerce and WooCommerce as well as Shopify, so we know where each keeps its data, URLs and custom logic. On Shopify that includes headless storefronts when a theme can’t do the job.
15+ years of commerce engineering
-
Performance first
Page speed is tested with the rest of the store before launch and tracked after it, alongside orders and rankings. Extensions are replaced rather than copied, so the new store doesn’t inherit the old one’s scripts. After launch, performance optimization takes speed further.
Performance optimization: typically 2–4 weeks
-
A long-term partner after launch
The engineers who migrated your store already know its code, apps and integrations, so optimization and new features don’t start with a learning curve – on a retainer, month to month, or with a dedicated engineer in your team.
Retainers from $2,500/month
-
24/7 emergency support
If something breaks after launch, the emergency line, +1 (818) 651-3226, is open 24/7. Retainer clients with 24/7 coverage get a first response within 2 hours, around the clock; every request gets one within 30–60 minutes in business hours.

Shopify Plus migration questions
Platform-specific questions are answered on each migration path. Something else? Ask an engineer.
How do we know which migration path – or platform – is right for us?
Start with the free migration assessment. Send your store URL and a few details, and within 2 business days an engineer sends a written verdict: whether Shopify Plus fits, the timeline band, the cost band, 2–3 risk flags and a map of your apps and integrations. No store access is needed for this first pass. If staying where you are, or moving to standard Shopify, is the better call, the assessment says so.
Will our store go offline during the switch?
Only briefly, at a time you agree. Your current store keeps taking orders until the agreed cutoff. Then we freeze changes, import the orders and customers created since the full import, switch the domain and verify checkout – the same steps already rehearsed end to end. Downtime is kept to a minimum, and a rollback plan with backups is agreed before launch day.
Should we migrate to standard Shopify instead of Shopify Plus?
Sometimes, and we will tell you. Since April 2, 2026, core B2B – company accounts, up to 3 B2B catalogs, volume pricing and net payment terms – works on every paid Shopify plan. Plus is still needed for more than 3 catalogs or catalogs assigned to specific companies, deposits, expansion stores, customizing the information, shipping and payment steps of checkout, and Shopify Functions in a custom app. As of October 2026, Plus costs from $2,300/month on a three-year term or $2,500/month on a one-year term.
What moves a migration up or down its price band?
Complexity, far more than catalog size. The biggest drivers are option matrices that exceed Shopify’s 3 options per product, cart and checkout rules that must be rebuilt as Shopify Functions, each ERP, PIM, OMS or 3PL connection, B2B requirements, design scope (parity costs less than a redesign) and messy or non-standard data. A small, clean WooCommerce or BigCommerce store belongs at the low end. The migration cost guide explains each factor.
How is the fixed price set – and does it hold?
The free assessment gives a band. The fixed quote comes from a deeper pass with read-only access to your store under NDA, once the product model, integrations and checkout rules have been scoped – so the price and timeline are fixed in writing before work starts and reflect what your store actually needs. Anything outside that agreed scope is discussed and priced with you before it is built.
How much of our team’s time does a migration take?
Mostly decisions and testing, not daily work. You need one person who can approve scope, plus the people who know your data and integrations. Their time goes mainly into four checkpoints: approving the maps, reviewing the build in the development store, testing the journeys they own and signing off the launch rehearsal. Your current store keeps taking orders the whole time, right up to the agreed cutoff.
When should we start planning a migration?
Count back from your deadline. Take the timeline for your platform – 3–12 weeks from BigCommerce or WooCommerce, 8–24+ weeks from Magento, Adobe Commerce or Salesforce Commerce Cloud – add a buffer and avoid launching in your peak season. If a license renewal is the deadline, start 6–9 months ahead so you don’t end up paying for both platforms.
We run several stores, brands or markets – can they move together?
Yes. Multi-store and multi-currency setups are common on Magento, Adobe Commerce and Salesforce Commerce Cloud. On Shopify Plus they land in one of two shapes: one store using Shopify Markets for countries, currencies and languages, or expansion stores where a region or B2B channel needs its own catalog, inventory or checkout rules. A separate brand needs its own Plus agreement – expansion stores are for the same brand. Discovery decides the structure, and whether every store moves at once or one goes first as the pilot for the rest.
