For teams weighing a move to Shopify Plus
Shopify Plus migration guides and comparisons
Most moves to Shopify Plus cost $25,000–$250,000+ and take 3–12 weeks from BigCommerce or WooCommerce, or 8–24+ weeks from Magento, Adobe Commerce or Salesforce Commerce Cloud. These guides from the engineers who run OUXP’s migrations show what drives the number, what Plus costs to run and when staying put is the better call.

Platform comparisons: should you move to Shopify Plus?
One head-to-head guide for each platform we migrate from. Each opens with a verdict – when to stay and when to move – then compares what each platform costs to run, who keeps it running and what you can customize.
-
Magento vs Shopify Plus
Shopify Plus usually costs less to own once hosting, PCI and upgrade projects are counted. Includes a full cost-of-ownership table and Adobe’s support dates.
- Stay on Magento if
- Your B2B or checkout logic needs code-level changes Shopify doesn’t allow, and your team already keeps up with patches.
- Migration time
- 8–24+ weeks
- Migration cost
- $50,000–$180,000
-
Adobe Commerce vs Shopify Plus
For teams facing a license renewal. Adobe Commerce licenses are commonly estimated at $22,000–$125,000+ a year; Shopify Plus starts at about $27,600 a year on a three-year term, hosting included.
- Stay on Adobe Commerce if
- Your B2B buyers depend on negotiable quotes and purchase-order approvals, or AEM, Target or Real-Time CDP is wired into how you sell.
- Migration time
- 10–24+ weeks
- Migration cost
- $60,000–$200,000
-
Salesforce Commerce Cloud vs Shopify Plus
Salesforce fees are usually a share of sales – commonly 1–3% of GMV, an industry estimate – and changes usually run through a specialist systems integrator. Shopify Plus charges a near-flat subscription, with a far larger pool of developers and apps.
- Stay on Salesforce if
- You run multi-brand, multi-region programs on the wider Salesforce stack with a dedicated Commerce Cloud team.
- Migration time
- 10–24+ weeks
- Migration cost
- $80,000–$250,000+
-
BigCommerce vs Shopify Plus
Shopify Plus often costs more in platform fees. The case for moving is a larger app and developer ecosystem, checkout extensibility and selling in several markets from one store.
- Stay on BigCommerce if
- Your setup works and lower fees at your revenue level matter more – an answer we give often.
- Migration time
- 4–12 weeks
- Migration cost
- $30,000–$70,000
-
WooCommerce vs Shopify Plus
WooCommerce software is free; hosting, plugins and maintenance hours are not. Under roughly $1M–$2M in yearly sales with a simple catalog, price standard Shopify too.
- Stay on WooCommerce if
- Publishing is the heart of your site and someone already maintains WordPress well.
- Migration time
- 3–10 weeks
- Migration cost
- $25,000–$60,000
-

Migration services for all five platformsWhat will Shopify Plus cost?
Two numbers decide the budget: what the platform costs to run every year, and what the move costs once. Each guide covers one of them, with prices as of October 2026.

Platform changes since 2025 that shift the decision
Six Shopify and Adobe changes since 2025 that affect what a move costs – or whether you need one. Newest first, checked in October 2026.
-
Shopify retired checkout.liquid on every plan
Custom checkout code from Magento or Salesforce can’t be copied to Shopify – it’s rebuilt as Checkout UI extensions and Shopify Functions. The retirement came in stages: the information, shipping and payment steps in 2024, then the Thank you and Order status pages – on Plus on August 28, 2025, on other plans on August 26, 2026.
Checkout on Magento vs Shopify Plus -
Adobe Commerce 2.4.6 left standard support
Adobe gives each release line about three years of standard support: 2.4.6 lost it on August 11, 2026, and 2.4.7 follows on May 31, 2027. From June 1, 2027, Adobe also stops maintaining cloud environments on unsupported releases – 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 first, 2.4.6 and 2.4.7 a year later. If an upgrade is due, price a move before you budget it.
Adobe support and cloud upgrade deadlines -
Shopify Scripts stopped running
Custom promotion, shipping and payment rules on Shopify now run as Shopify Functions; Scripts could no longer be edited after April 15, 2026 and stopped running on June 30. A store moving to Plus builds these rules as Functions from day one – one reason heavy custom checkout logic moves a migration up its range.
Shopify Functions development -
Core B2B works on every paid Shopify plan
Basic, Grow and Advanced now include company accounts, up to 3 B2B catalogs, volume pricing, quantity rules, net payment terms and a B2B checkout. Plus keeps more than 3 catalogs, catalogs assigned to specific companies, deposits and partial payments – so the case for Plus is B2B at scale, not B2B itself.
Standard Shopify or Plus for B2B? -
Up to 2,048 variants per product
Every Shopify plan now allows 2,048 variants per product, up from 100 – but still only 3 options. Products with more than three options, common on Magento, have to be restructured, and that is the biggest scope driver on Magento projects.
What moves migration cost -
Adobe launched Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service
Adobe’s SaaS edition updates itself, but replaces the Luma storefront with Edge Delivery Services and runs customizations as external apps. Moving a Magento 2 store onto it means rebuilding much of the store, so price it next to Shopify Plus rather than treating it as an upgrade.

Questions about these guides
How the guides are written and how to use them. Something else? Ask an engineer.
Is Shopify Plus cheaper than the platform we use now?
Against Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud and self-hosted Magento, usually yes; against BigCommerce and WooCommerce, usually not on platform fees alone. As of October 2026, Shopify Plus costs from $2,300/month on a three-year term or $2,500/month on a one-year term, hosting included. Adobe licenses (commonly estimated at $22,000–$125,000+ a year) and Salesforce’s revenue-based fees typically cost more; self-hosted Magento adds hosting, DevOps and upgrades. WooCommerce has no platform fee and BigCommerce’s is often lower – there, the case for Plus is the ecosystem and less upkeep.
Are the prices in OUXP’s guides quotes?
No – the prices in OUXP’s guides are typical bands. Migration ranges come from our own projects, for example $50,000–$180,000 over 8–24+ weeks for Magento 1 or 2, while third-party prices such as Adobe Commerce licenses are labeled as industry estimates. Where your store lands depends on its option matrices, integrations, B2B and checkout logic. Every OUXP migration gets a fixed price and timeline in writing before work starts. See the migration cost guide for what moves the number.
OUXP sells Shopify Plus migrations – can we trust its platform comparisons?
Read them knowing who wrote them: OUXP – a Shopify Plus Partner since 2019 – earns from migrations. That is why each comparison starts with a verdict that lists when to choose the other platform – bespoke checkout or B2B logic on Magento, a BigCommerce setup that works, a content-first WordPress site – and why our free assessment can conclude that you should stay. A move that doesn’t pay back is a bad project for both sides.
How current are OUXP’s Shopify Plus guides?
Each OUXP guide shows the month it was last updated. The current set was checked in October 2026 against Shopify’s and Adobe’s own pricing pages and documentation, where they publish them. It already reflects the 2025–2026 changes: Shopify Plus pricing, the end of Shopify Scripts on June 30, 2026, core B2B on every paid Shopify plan since April 2, 2026, and Adobe Commerce support dates. Prices that can change are marked “as of October 2026”.
Can we get these numbers for our own store?
Yes – that is what the free migration assessment is for. Send your store URL and current platform, and within 2 business days an engineer sends a written platform verdict, timeline band, cost band, the 2–3 risks most likely to complicate your move and a map of your apps and integrations. No store access is needed. The fixed price comes later, after a deeper review with read-only access under NDA.
We haven’t decided to move – where should we start?
Start with the comparison guide for your current platform and read the first list in its verdict – “Stay on Adobe Commerce if…”, “Choose BigCommerce if…” and so on. If most points describe your store, staying may be right. If moving still looks likely, the Shopify Plus pricing guide gives the yearly running cost and the migration cost guide the one-time cost. Then set both against what your current platform will cost over its next renewal or upgrade cycle.
